Baron Hotel

Night exterior photography of Baron Hotel Cairo in Heliopolis.

Some buildings are daytime buildings. Baron Hotel is not one of them.

The Heliopolis facade is built to be lit, and the twenty minutes after sunset are when the architecture and the sky are finally the same brightness. Shoot earlier and the building is a silhouette. Shoot later and the sky goes black and the hotel floats in nothing. The frame here was made inside that window, then blended across several exposures so the lit stonework holds detail and the sky keeps its colour.

An exterior like this does more work than any other single image a hotel owns. It is the one that runs on the homepage, the booking engine and every listing site at once.
